Sunday October 25th 1987 saw me travel down the A303 to a remote place called Winterbourne Gunner to my first ever Ace of Aces promoted by the late Ian Barclay of Andover Motorsports Club fame, this was the first full international grasstrack to be held in England for many years. Steve Schofield won the 500cc Solo title on the day in a hotly contested race with Trevor Banks. One of the big attractions of the meeting was the first ever appearance on UK grasstrack of multiple world speedway titles Denmarks Hans Nielson.
In the 1000cc right hand sidecars saw a win from Steve Dewison and Dave ward, followed home by then British Masters champions Roger Measor and Dave Harris, with Paul and Lisa Pinfold in 3rd. The BBC filmed this event with a couple of races appearing on the "Grandstand" show a couple of weeks later.
