Thank you for watching!
This is the sixth(!!) video of Sashiko coaster making.
In this video, I will show how to stitch one of the Kakinohana stitch. Kakinohana is a very good example of the fascinating world of Sashiko as combinations of simple running stitches create beautiful patterns.
You can create a lot of different variations by changing the combinations of horizontal and vertical lines.
If you have never tried Sashiko (especially Hitomezashi), I would highly recommend to start with this pattern. In fact, this is the first pattern I stitched when I started Sashiko!!
The Hitomezashi is a method to use a grid as a guide for stitching.
In this video, I will draw a 21x21 grid with 5mm squares (the squares can be 1/4 inch as well) on the face of the fabric with an erasable pen and stitch along the grid lines.
More detailed explanations of coaster sewing process is in the coaster making Part 2
