In this video, we compare LVT vs HVT in VLSI by designing inverters using low-threshold voltage (LVT) and high-threshold voltage (HVT) transistors in Cadence Virtuoso. We perform a DC simulation of inverters to analyze the voltage transfer characteristics (VTC), switching behavior, and power consumption in VLSI design. The results show that LVT transistors provide a smoother transition and lower switching voltage but consume more power due to higher leakage. In contrast, HVT transistors switch more abruptly at a higher voltage, making them more power-efficient with lower current consumption. By comparing the DC characteristics of LVT and HVT, we explore their impact on VLSI inverter design and discuss which is better: LVT or HVT for power efficiency. Watch the video to learn how threshold voltage affects inverter performance and how to optimize transistor selection in VLSI circuit design.
