State of Decay 2 - no matter how well you think you are prepared vid1

Being that my survivor was going to be a trader, and having just recently had another hero with that skill, I knew what to expect and also having done this one before years ago, I knew exactly where the final battle would take place. So since finding an extra vehicle early in my playthrough and each time during the many hours that followed, I drove each of them over to this factory, strategically parking them to block off every single entry into the place, and each time having to run long distances to get another to drive that over and do the same. Now, I really should know better, this game has ways of screwing up any good plan.

The final quest began just as I was parking my last car. I doubled checked everything, making sure there would be no way anything could get in, nor out, short of teleporting or walking through walls, and then talked to one of the NPCs and so the battle begins. First I had to get rid of the feral running around outside, as the hostile NPCs weren't making any moves to advance. Then I got up on a truck trailer, and the moment I did I started getting shot at from a distance, and returned fire, though I realized that I wasn't going to do any damage since their red diamond marker hadn't appeared yet. One came a running, the one I was shooting at and he ran around the side of the factory and just as I got down, he was already inside, my guess, ran through the back wall, and the other two thankfully were stuck outside out back with the zombies.

But this one that got in, shot down one of my allies and then I wailed on him (should have maybe tried my shove attack, maybe it would have been more effective), but then he recovers and starts shooting at me. I have too many items, and trying to move and switch to what I need, well, I need a moment break for that and this jerk wasn't letting me out of his sights, and them bullets hurt bad. I kept missing with my attacks (heavy weapon isn't good against these agile hostile NPCs), and tried to flee so that I could approach this better, but got shot, down I went, got back up, healed, shot down again, and I was actually scared I'd lose after all this, but managed to get away and back outside.

I threw some bombs in, hurt my friends as well as this seemingly impossible bad guy. What I'm surprised by is that even with bloater gas grenades, fire bombs, that I didn't accidentally kill my allies which would have failed the mission, forcing me to start it over again. But thankfully, even the one on the ground wasn't for dying today. Even when I went back to my outpost to stock up again, no one died on either side. This game is so screwy with the whole NPC thing. I gave up on trying to kill that one guy, I don't even know if I was even hurting him, so I went after the two that were outside, threw some fire at them, some wild and terribly aimed shotgun blasts and both were killed, not sure when the dude on the inside died, whether I killed him or what, but it was finally over. What a mess that was. Useless barriers, useless walls, the game has ways of making things work in its favor, it either beams them in or temporarily turns off their collision so they can run through cars or walls.
