For the second installment of the Mongoose Mini Series, I'll be demonstrating removal of the headset. Almost all of the Mongoose fat bikes will have this same headset, and they tend to come over-tightened and with minimal grease. This can lead to serious issues down the road because of wear to the bearings and pressed in cups. When you first get the bike, I strongly recommend removal and greasing to prevent from premature failure.
There are several different variations of bearings that will fit a headset. Please note that the bearing position is entirely dependent upon the cage. If the cage completely clears the cone race, it should be placed on facing the cone. If it does not clear the cone, the raceshould be on the cup side.
