Some local patch birding in October in south Hokkaido, Japan.
A couple of (fairly) unusual species turned up this month.....
These clips and photos were all taken in my local neighbourhood in October 2025; all within a a 10 or 15 minute walk from my apartment. All bird photos and video taken with the Canon R5 and RF 600 f/11.
The 600 f/11 is a great walkaround lens on a full frame camera like the R5 but it does clearly have its limitations.
Birds in this video include: Medium Egret, Black-crowned Night Heron, the east Asian race of Common Tern, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Pygmy Woodpecker, Red-flanked Bluetail, Dusky Thrush, Long-tailed Rosefinch, Falcated Duck plus a variety of other other local species.
