In this second part of the EFI installation on my 1974 Volkswagen Beetle 1303S (running a 1915cc engine), things aren't nearly as straightforward as I'd hoped. What was sold as a bolt-on EFI kit turns out to need quite a bit of fettling to make it work on a classic Beetle.
I run into several frustrating problems — the air filter housings don’t fit the throttle bodies, the carb linkage won’t line up properly, and the fuel rails foul against the inner wings. Not ideal. Still, I press on: modifying the distributor to remove mechanical advance, routing the wiring harness, removing and draining the fuel tank, installing a return barb, and getting the throttle bodies mounted.
If you're thinking of fitting EFI to your classic aircooled VW, this is the part where things get real!
