Writing about SF, & how to get published! Paul Z Jackson & Mark McKergow

Among the extensive literature on Solution Focused Practice, Paul Z. Jackson & Mark McKergow’s book The Solutions Focus has had a huge impact on the field, the 1st edition in 2002 being the first publication to describe SF practice beyond the context of therapy. Their 3rd edition of the book is fully revised and updated, reflecting the increasing importance of coaching and solution focused practices in team and organisational environments.

Writer and journalist Martin Buckley will host a discussion with Paul and Mark including the origin of the book, it’s impact over the last 22 years, and the rewriting of the current edition.

Solution Focused Practice touches many people’s lives as a result of the quiet revolution in approaches to care, therapy, education, employment, coaching and the management of change.

What is Solution-Focused Practice?

Solution Focused Practice is now recognised as being both a respectful and efficient way of working with people in the helping professions, education, employment and in the wider business and consultancy context. From individual counsellors and coaches to whole organisations in the public and private sector, the evidence and benefits of the approach can be seen. Solution Focused (SF) Practice is the practical application of SF principles, which in outline are:

establishment of what a “preferred future” might be
identification of ways in which this is already happening
using the person’s own resources to move in small steps in the
right direction.
