Before the Hitahci Azumas transformed the East Coast Main Line, Grantham was a very different place for train movements.
In this video, we take a look back at multiple train classes passing through Grantham in the years before the introduction of Class 800/801 Azuma units. Featuring a mix of classic and now-withdrawn traction, this video captures a moment in time when the ECML still hosted a wide variety of rolling stock.
Seen in this video are:
InterCity High Speed Trains (HSTs)
Class 91 electric locomotives with Mk4 sets
Class 180 Adelante
Class 158 and Class 156 diesel units
This footage offers a glimpse into an era of British rail that has now largely disappeared, as modern fleets and standardisation have reshaped the route.
📍 Location: Grantham
🚆 Line: East Coast Main Line
📅 Era: Pre-Azuma introduction
This video is part of SimOnTrains Rail Movements, focusing purely on train movements, traction variety, and changing railway history across the UK.
