In this video, I discuss the recommendations of drinking alcohol while being a diabetic. I discuss what happens to your blood sugar levels when drinking alcohol and how certain medications can put you at risk for developing hypoglycemia (low blood sugar reaction).
We have to remember that the liver cannot multitask, therefore, the liver will be busy filtering out the toxins of the alcohol and not release glucose into the bloodstream, therefore, leading to hypoglycemia. Alcoholic beverages can be packed with calories, therefore, moderation is key. You do not want to pack on weight, cause more insulin resistance, and make the management of diabetes even more difficult.
