Vietnam/China - Zemin At Pacific Rim Conference

(22 Nov 1994) Chinese President Jiang Zemin headed home on Tuesday (22/11) after
a lengthy tour of Southeast Asia that took him to a conference of
Pacific rim leaders and to Vietnam. Jiang left Hanoi after a
three-day visit, the first by a Chinese Communist Party general
secretary. China and Vietnam agreed not to escalate their
territorial disputes or resort to force, and assured their nervous
neighboors that they are willing to work for a peaceful
settlement.
