Using talking stick as a practical symbol of a balance of power, mutuality, equality, justice in conversation — moving the talking stick from person to person keeps the conversation inclusive, alive and interesting. The concept of “Needs” includes Personal, such as autonomy, understanding, competence and being seen, as well as Interpersonal needs — such as companionship, community, friendship, collaboration, mutuality, equity and connection. NVC Requests can be leveraged to keep the conversation alive, as demonstrated by James when he asked for the talking stick from Brian.

What is NVC? Here is the breakdown from the Center for Nonviolent Communication:
