Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio is not a particularly distinctive varietal but that can also make it a good, relatively safe pick for large groups because it doesn't have the butteriness of Chardonnay, the grassy notes of Sauvignon Blanc, the sweetness of a Moscato or Reisling that can make those varietals more polarizing.
Usually it’s a just a straightforward, easy drinking white wine that when less ripe might lean more lime and green apple fruit flavors, or lemon and nectarine on the more ripe side. It may have some floral notes, and refreshing acidity making it very food friendly or enjoyable on its own.
Though it can be found all over the world it is most commonly found in Italy, France and Oregon.
