Should Hong Kong Primary School Students Be Using Simplified Characters in Exams?

Hi there!
Last week, the Sha Tin Government Primary School in Hong Kong has told parents that Primary 2 to Primary 6 students will be allowed to use simplified characters in their tests and exams.
It's pretty clear what they're doing and why, and it's really sad (and to me quite unintentionally funny) that they say they're doing it in the name of making the exam environment more "friendly".
I'll be back with a Cantonese teaching video soon, but just had to vent a little about this, especially after the short I did last week on the poster with simplified and traditional characters and my past videos on my feelings toward simplified characters.
I apologize for the quality -- not great, not even good -- and I'll do better next time!
Thanks for watching and if you haven't already, please subscribe for more!
Best,
Sue
Learn Cantonese and/or Characters with me -- why?
Because I know exactly how to teach it and how to explain it ways that others may struggle to. Because I know the frustration that comes with attempting to speak and not being understood. Because I can explain the reasons behind the behavior.
End the frustration and email me to schedule a call to see how I can help:

Let's get you speaking (and reading and writing if you want to)! 🙌 🤩
