Box on the Rock is a house shaped by restraint, precision, and an attentive reading of its site. Set on a rocky terrain in Sonoma Valley, the project responds to technical and environmental constraints through a compact footprint and a disciplined architectural language.
Rather than expanding outward, the design focuses on shaping space with care. A simple box is carved and adjusted to create courtyards, terraces, and carefully placed openings that regulate light, shade, and airflow throughout the day.
Minimal traces are left on the land, while each interior space is measured to serve a clear purpose. The result is a home that does not seek visual dominance, but instead offers a quiet, balanced way of inhabiting the landscape where precision becomes comfort, and limitation becomes clarity.
