Beautiful Baby Frock | A-Line Baby Dress with Side Frills | Easy Cutting & Stitching Tutorial

Welcome, sew family! Today I’m making this cute denim/chambray baby frock with daisy lace trim and side hip frills—a comfy A-line dress perfect for everyday wear. Let’s cut and stitch it step by step!

Materials
• Light denim/chambray (≈ 1–1.25 m for 2–5Y)
• Cotton lining (optional for neckline)
• Matching thread, zipper or hook/button for back keyhole
• Bias strip (or ready bias)
• Daisy lace/appliqué for neck, armholes & hip detail
• Elastic (optional for tiny keyhole loop)

Measurements
• Chest (C), Shoulder (S), Armhole depth (AD = C/6 + 3 cm), Dress length (L), Neck width (NW = C/12), Neck depth (ND = 5–6 cm).

Cutting (A-line shift)
1. Front & Back Panels (2 pcs):
• Width = C/4 + 3 cm ease.
• Length = L + 2.5 cm hem.
• From shoulder, mark AD and draw armhole.
• Neckline: NW × ND (front), NW × 2–3 cm (back).
• Add A-line flare: from waist to hem, add 3–4 cm each side and blend to armhole.
• For easy wear, mark a back keyhole or 20–22 cm zipper.
2. Side-Frill Openings:
On both panels, mark the hip line (≈ AD + 8–10 cm). From hip line down to hem, keep the side seam open to insert frills later.
3. Side Frills/Godets (2 pcs):
• Length = distance from hip mark to hem + 2 cm.
• Width = 2× desired frill fullness (cut rectangles 18–22 cm wide).
• You can gather or make knife pleats to fit the opening.
4. Neck/Armhole Finishing:
Cut bias strips 3–3.5 cm wide (or small facings).

Stitching
1. Join Shoulders of front & back; press.
2. Finish Neckline: sew bias/facing around neck; turn in, top-stitch. Create a back keyhole with button loop or attach zipper.
3. Finish Armholes with bias in the same way.
4. Side Frills:
• Finish one long edge of each frill (narrow hem).
• Gather/pleat the top edge to match the hip-to-hem opening.
• Insert frill between front and back along the side seam; stitch from hip mark to hem, then close the remaining side seams above the hip.
5. Hem the dress neatly.
6. Decoration:
• Attach daisy lace around neckline and along armholes.
• Add a small daisy cluster at the top of each side frill like in the picture.
7. Final press—your Denim Daisy Frock is ready!

Pro tip: Use chambray for a soft fall; keep frills equal on both sides for a balanced look.
