The G line which had its operations switched from Jamaica Yard to Coney Island Yard again since October 2021 has been operating its new fleet of R211T’s progressively, starting with the “soft shell” variant, and after then the “hard shell” variant also entered service after also being transferred from Pitkin Yard where they both only operated C train service since their debut. Shortly after the introduction of the hard shell variant of the R211T’s to the G line, Coney Island Yard officially entered two sets of R211A cars from the Option Order 1 batch in service, marking them as the first ever R211A’s to be assigned to Coney Island Yard and another yard in the subway in general that is not Pitkin Yard. These sets, numbered 3415-3419 and 3520-3524, had tested numerous times on both the G line (coupled together as a full set for burn-ins) and the B line, which has yet to be operated by any NTT fleet regularly, and is one of the last lines in the subway to be completely free of New Technology Trains. As the first R211A’s from the first Option Order enter service under Coney Island Yard, this also means these are the first cars operated new by Coney Island on the G line, as well as the direct replacement to the yards large fleet of Pullman Standard R46’s. Since the debut of these new cars on the G, another coupled set of R211A cars, both from the option order, have entered burn-in testing out of Coney Island for multiple lines, one of them now being the N line, which operates a vast majority fleet of R46’s. It is said that Coney Island Yard will continue to receive these R211A’s to replace the entire R46 fleet, as well as extra cars to replace a small amount of R68 cars that are low performing, possibly to free up space in order to allow for CBTC frequencies on lines that will be operated with the new systems soon. By the R46’s retirement, as the G only operates R46’s and R211’s currently, the G line will be the first line to be entirely converted to operating R211 fleets in order to be able to utilize the CBTC systems the G line had installed years prior. #mtasubway
