I've recently noticed just how dependent I am on my phone...and by dependent I mean completely addicted! I recently watched "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix and it scared me a bit. Have you seen it yet? We are basically like puppets being controlled by our phones and OUR ATTENTION is what's being sold.
I am someone who's made a career on social / digital media, so I know this more than anyone else. I personally use my phone to communicate with family and friends, to do my work, to get directions, and overall to achieve most daily tasks. BUT, I also find my finger swiping up and down mindlessly as I scroll social media without a purpose. I definitely feel that I'm addicted to my cell phone, and I had to do something about it.
I decided to challenge myself to go 24 hours without not only my iPhone, but overall technology as a whole. (WOAH, I KNOW!) That means no television, no laptop, no tablet, and of course, NO PHONE...it was digital detox time!
With less time and focus on my screens and more focus on myself, the day was actually incredibly productive. I decided to treat the day as a "loop day" and used it to tie up all the loose ends & stragglers on my to-do list. You know... the sometimes boring and mundane tasks that we put off until the very last minute.... I WAS TICKING THOSE BOXES OFF LEFT AND RIGHT!
And not only did I cross off tasks, I took the day to do things for MYSELF and to improve my mental
health. I did some acupressure mat relaxation, read an interesting book, caught up on some self-care, and even cooked lunch and dinner with Michael.
Just one day without technology made a noticeable difference in my mental health, so now
