José Manuel Sierra Méndez (born May 21, 1978, in Moguer, Spain) is a retired Spanish handball goalkeeper widely regarded as one of the best in his position. Known for his incredible reflexes, leadership, and consistency, Sierra made an indelible mark on the sport of handball, both at the club and international levels.

Club Career:
Sierra’s career began at CB Pedro Alonso Niño de Moguer, but he truly rose to prominence when he joined FC Barcelona in 1996. During his time at Barcelona (1996–2000), he helped the team secure several major titles, including 5 Liga ASOBAL championships, 3 Copa del Rey titles, and multiple EHF Champions League victories.

After his time with Barcelona, Sierra went on to play for BM Valladolid (2000–2003) and BM Ciudad Real (2003–2004), before returning to Valladolid for a long stint until 2012. He later played for clubs like Paris Saint-Germain Handball (2012–2014), where he won French League titles and the French Cup.

Sierra ended his playing career with Pick Szeged in Hungary and Bidasoa Irún in Spain, continuing to contribute to the sport by achieving multiple honors, including being named Best Goalkeeper at the 2022 Copa ASOBAL.

International Career:
On the international stage, Sierra was a vital part of the Spanish national team. He made key contributions in Spain's victory at the 2013 World Championship, where he played a pivotal role in their gold medal win, and he was also instrumental in their Euro 2014 bronze medal finish.

Known for his unmatched shot-blocking ability, Sierra was a key figure for Spain in major tournaments, boasting an impressive save rate in both the 2013 World Cup (39.3%) and Euro 2014 (32%).

Coaching Career:
After retiring from playing, Sierra transitioned to a coaching role and is currently working as an assistant coach at Limoges Handball in France, continuing his legacy in the sport by guiding the next generation of players.
