MediaSmarts and the Internet, Technology, and Digital Sociology Cluster of the Canadian Sociological Association host a virtual panel on experiences researching AI Literacy during the 19th annual Media Literacy Week. This diverse panel of researchers, from across the Canadian academic landscape, discussed the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in mediating interaction, especially conflict and harm.
Panelists highlight:
The role of ‘deep fake’ images and new forms of ‘crime with AI’
The recency of this emerging area of research
Opportunities and challenges when researching AI (both theoretical and methodological)
How to communicate issues related to AI that foster AI literacy and possibly avoid influencing moral panics about these technologies.
