Flensburg is one of the northernmost towns in Germany — just a two-hour train ride from Hamburg — but it feels like a world of its own.
In this episode of Chris Without Borders, I visit Flensburg for the very first time to explore its Danish heritage, its historic port, and its surprising role at the end of World War II — when, for a few weeks, it became the seat of the last Nazi government.
You’ll see bilingual street signs, charming red-brick facades, cobbled alleys, and the beautiful Flensburg Fjord that connects the town to the Baltic Sea. Along the way, I dive into the city’s long history — from Danish rule to Prussian annexation, from rum trade to naval base.
📍 Locations featured:
– Flensburg harbor & old town
– Rote Straße & Oluf-Samson-Gang
– Phänomenta science center
– The former navy base in Mürwik (Sportschule)
