Near the Circumvesuviana train stop at Pompeii, be sure to ride the "congo"-style bus to the Mount Vesuvius trail. It's a bumpy ride to the volcanic ash hiking trail that leads to the top of Mount Vesuvius where you walk to the crater rim. The hike is easy and well worth the chance to see the steaming crater and mountain-top view of Pompeii. Hope you enjoy my video tour!
You can hike around the rim (beyond the public trail) with a guide but you must make arrangements in advance.
