Zephyr Cove was named for the Greek god of the west wind, Zephyrus, once the area was discovered in the Sierra Nevada’s. Zephyr Cove is now a thriving tourist spot, although less dense than other Lake Tahoe neighborhoods. The Zephyr Cove Resort has been a staple since the early 1900s, restoring their “cabins” to fit modern accommodations.

Zephyr Cove Resort overlooks Zephyr Cove Marina, where visitors can partake in parasailing, water skiing, jet skiing, power boating, fishing, or simply relax on the beach. Closer to home, residents of Zephyr Cove have access to a Safeway off Elks Point Road and Lincoln Highway. The center also includes Anytime Fitness, United States Postal Service, Casey’s restaurant, Harumi Sushi, and the Bean Bar.

Students of Zephyr Cove are served by the Douglas County School District within the community. Zephyr Cove Elementary School is across from Zephyr Cove Park and Stateline Library, easing the morning commutes for parents and students. George Whittell High School is a quarter-mile from the primary school. George Whittell High educates both middle and high school students, known as the George Whittell Warriors.
