Young Ringers' Week in Bournemouth: Day 2

Some footage from the second day of the Young Ringers' (and Friends!) tour to the Bournemouth area. Towers visited on Day Two were Oakdale, Poole, Lytchett Minster, Lytchett Minster, Morden, and the practice at Wimborne Minster.

Oakdale: A modern church equipped with a light Whitechapel 6 cast in 1989. Footage here is of Stedman Doubles (on both the back 5 and all 6), and a short extract from a quarter peal of Cambridge Minor we rang here.

St James Poole next, a historic church right down by the quay, dating from 1820. The back 8 were cast in 1821 by William Dobson, and were augmented by two trebles in 1937 by Mears and Stainbank. They form a fine old-fashioned 10, having been rehung in 2008 by Taylor's. Ringing here consists of the raise (front 6 and back 4,) call changes on 8 and 10, and lowering the back 6.

After lunch back at the Scout hut, it was onto Lytchett Minster, a pleasant ground-floor 6 made memorable by the 5th which was rung off the stairs! Stedman Doubles (by now "the" favourite filming method for the tour!) is featured.

Lytchett Matravers followed, possibly the most challenging tower of the tour with the bells being heinously oddstruck. although they sounded OK once we got them going. No, the video is not out of synch; they really are that oddstruck!! :-) Stedman Doubles - naturally! - and Little Bob Minor featured here.

The last tower of the afternoon was Morden, a pretty little church with a tall but narrow tower visible from a fair distance. Aside from the somewhat rustbucket tenor they sound very nice, although they do need pulling! Stedman Doubles - what else! - and Spliced Plain and Grandsire featuring here.

For the evening, we were made very welcome at the superb 12 at Wimborne Minster, a Gillett 10 of 1911, augmented by Whitechapel in 2012 with two trebles and a sharp 2nd. GTFU'ing the tenor, Stedman Triples on the light 8 and Grandsire Cinques filmed from outside.
