Young Ringers' Week in Bournemouth: Day 4

Some footage from the fourth (and final!) day of the Young Ringers' (and Friends!) tour to the Bournemouth area. Towers visited on Day Four were Brownsea Island and Wareham.

Day Four was centred around a daytrip to Brownsea Island, located in Poole Harbour and known for its wildlife and Scout connections (an experimental camp being held here from 1-8 August 1907, which later paved the way for the formation of the Scout movement.) Naturally, the ferry journey was an excuse to get the handbells out!

The pretty little church of St Mary, built in 1854 by William Waugh, contains a delightful little Whitechapel 8, cast in 1980 replacing a Warner 4. Despite a slightly shouty tenor, they are a truly fantastic little ring, and we enjoyed our time here (even ringing a quarter peal,) and are well worth a visit. :-) Ringing featured here includes Grandsire Triples, Grandsire Major, Cambridge S Major (belfry) and Stedman Triples (outside.)

We also visited the 10 at Wareham for practice; alas, the only tower of the week where no video footage was obtained!

Upon arriving back at the Scout hut for the last night, we were treated to a superb firework display over Poole harbour; a fitting end to a most enjoyable week. :-)
