Based on the play of the same name by Chernodrinski (Vojdan Popgeorgiev), "Macedonian Blood Wedding" follows the courageous journey of Cveta, a young Orthodox Christian woman who refuses to submit to the brutal demands of a powerful regional official of the Ottoman Empire.
The story begins when the local governor Osman Bey and his men pursue a fugitive who has broken into the palace in an attempt to rescue his sister, who is being held captive in the bey's harem. A kind-hearted village shepherd, Spase, helps him escape. While searching the surrounding fields for the fugitive, Osman encounters the young Cveta and forcibly takes her to join the women in his harem.

The Christian villagers, joined by Orhan, a local Muslim villager, are appalled by the bey's cruelty. An uprising begins when the villagers, led by the local priest, march with torches to the palace to demand Cveta's release. Diplomatic representatives from Russia, France, and England intervene, exerting international pressure to end the situation and free Cveta. However, on the day of her wedding, the bey arrives with his soldiers. Cveta is killed, Spase kills the bey and leaves in droves.
