We will be live streaming Kyoto’s famous summer event, the "Kyoto Gozan Okuribi." In Japan, there is a long-standing tradition called "Obon," during which it is believed that the spirits of ancestors return to this world. Okuribi, or the "sending-off fire," is a ceremony where these spirits are guided back to the afterlife with the power of flames.
Kyoto’s Okuribi is unique, as massive characters and symbols are formed with flames on five mountains urrounding the city, creating a rare and spectacular sight.
In this live stream, we will focus on the first fire to be lit, the "Daimonji." The lighting is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
