The Libyan National Army (LNA) has reportedly signed a $4 billion arms deal with Pakistan, centered on the acquisition of Chinese JF-17 fighter jets jointly produced by China and Pakistan. The draft agreement indicates plans to procure 12 JF-17 fighters along with 12 Super Mushak trainer aircraft, potentially including the advanced Block 3 variant featuring AESA radar, modern avionics, and PL-10 and PL-15 air-to-air missiles. This move follows Libya’s post-2011 civil war and the LNA’s ongoing conflict with the Turkey-backed Islamist Government of National Accord, as both sides increasingly rely on foreign military support. If confirmed, the JF-17 acquisition would significantly modernize the LNA’s air force, replacing reliance on aging Russian-supplied MiG-29 and Su-24 aircraft and enhancing its ability to achieve air superiority in the Libyan theater.
