BobBlast #303 - Picture Window, Part Two
Welcome back to another BobBlast!

This is part two of “Picture Window,” a continuation of the last BobBlast and my ongoing Windows Looking In, Windows Looking Out series of paintings.

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who has joined the Windows Exhibit FaceBook group and posted their work! I am so full of gratitude, you share your art.

Remember, the theme is “Windows” - Specifically, with this exhibit I wanted to address the issue of all of us painters feeling isolated. I hope you all post your Window paintings - your vision, and enjoy looking through the gallery of work.

So, back to Picture Window - in part one, you watched me spread gel medium over a 30x30 inch canvas and collage in the areas where I wanted to build a graphic statement for the composition.

This underpainting has dried and now I am ready to paint! The color combination is from my Goof-Proof Color Wheel. I choose the dominant color first and the other three colors fall into place, according to my Color Wheel.

Here’s a Summary:

•Dominant Color - Blue Green. I use a variety of blue tones.
•Focal Point Color - Red. Again, I use a variety of reds for depth and interest.
•Spice Colors - two of them - Yellow and Purple.

The Dominant Color is about 80% of your painting footprint. The Focal Point Color is about 10% - focal point is best in one area - you don’t want to have more than one focal point…

The Spice Colors are about 5% each - used sparingly around the Focal Point Color for the greatest interest! The Spice Colors exist to kick up the Focal Point Color.

Remember, start with large, juicy brushes and paper towels for wiping and spreading paint. Starting with your Dominant Color, work all over the canvas with a sense of urgency - all at the same time. This habit of painting keeps me from falling into early detail work.

My purpose for this Picture Window - which is a Woman in the Picture Window, is to paint visual excitement for the viewer… and for me as well. I want to create an image I’ve never seen before!

Part Two got us through painting the first pass of the Dominant and Focal Color. Part Three, you will see me add the two Spice Colors!
