While consonants block or narrow the airflow, vowels let it flow freely. This short video explores what makes vowels distinct — sounds produced with an open vocal tract and no obstruction from the tongue, lips, or teeth. You’ll see why vowels form the core of every syllable and why five vowel letters in English represent far more sounds. Understanding vowels helps you speak more clearly and recognize words more easily in any language.
