Tim shows a 2011 wallet that has a metal mesh embedded in it, that is supposed to block radio waves, so no-one is able to 'see' any of the details of any of your cards inside your wallet via their embedded RFID chips. This wallet looks a bit clunky though, with the mesh very visible. So while it has been in Tim's collection, he has not used it as a wallet. But then, this Christmas, Tim was given a wallet as a present, which also has this technology built in, but now it is completely hidden, and it just looks like a normal wallet. High tech Tim!
Next, an 'impossible' cut and folded playing card, which looks to be impossible. Tim then shows a fibre optic block, which will bring an image forwards. So when Tim places the block in contact with the butterfly, you can see a parallax effect between the image seen via the fibre optic block, and the bits of the butterfly that are visible above the block.
Then, a paper bag! This one came from a shop in Hobart, Australia. On the back of the bag there are a number of puzzles and conundrums that have been printed, in order to entertain you on the way home from visiting the shop!
SHAPELETS come from Japan, and they are elastic bands that can be 'set' into different shapes. The pack contains a number of elastic bands, and also a frame with a number of pegs that you can insert into the frame. You arrange a rubber band around the pegs in the shape you want to create, and place the whole thing in the oven for ten minutes at a low-ish temperature. This causes the shape that you have arranged the band in to be 'set', so the shape is now permanent. Clever!
