NAMIBIA - Central Namibia selfdrive itinerary with friends - Namibia Ep.2

This episode is a special one.
We’re joined by friends - freshly married - as they kick off their honeymoon with a self-drive road trip through Namibia. We travel in our own Toyota Land Cruiser, while they rent a fully equipped 4x4 with rooftop tent from Savanna Car Hire. Proof that Namibia is perfect for a shared overland adventure, even without your own vehicle.

We start in Windhoek and head straight into the bush, spending our first nights at Mount Etjo Safari Lodge in the Okonjati Wildlife Reserve. A private game reserve that turns out to be a great alternative to Etosha if you want to include wildlife in your Namibia itinerary without driving all the way north.

From there, the focus shifts to landscapes — big, raw, and wildly different:
Erongo Mountains, where we explore the granite hills by bike
Spitzkoppe, with one of our most memorable wild camping spots and time to explore the iconic rock formations
Brandberg, driving dry riverbeds in search of desert elephants
Messum Crater, a remote volcanic landscape connecting the Brandberg area to the coast

Upon reaching the ocean, we stop at Cape Cross seal colony, then continue to Swakopmund & Walvis Bay. We get the adrenaline pumping during a guided Sandwich Harbour tour with Misty Shores, a thrilling drive where towering dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean.

Back inland, we revisit Solitaire and Sossusvlei. This time, we commit to the climb and tackle Big Daddy dune. Visiting in the afternoon once again pays off, we have Deadvlei and the dunes completely to ourselves.
Another cool experience is an early-morning quad biking tour with Le Mirage Resort, driving through soft desert light before sunrise.

To end the journey, we trade camping for comfort and spend our final night in a lodge, a perfect way to pamper the newlyweds, reflect on the journey, and enjoy one last wildlife encounter before returning to Windhoek.

A road trip full of friendship, firsts, wildlife encounters, dust, dunes, and the kind of memories that make Namibia an alternative honeymoon destination, even if shared with friends.
