Welcome to the grand finale of the Banff Series! In Episode 8, we explore two of the most visually stunning lakes in the Canadian Rockies—Peyto Lake and Bow Lake. These glacial masterpieces are not only natural wonders but have also played starring roles in Bollywood’s cinematic history.
🐺 Peyto Lake: The Wolf-Shaped Wonder
Named after legendary guide Bill Peyto, this lake is famous for its surreal turquoise hue and its unique shape—resembling a wolf’s head when viewed from above. Fed by the Peyto Glacier, it sits at an elevation of 1,860 meters and offers one of the most iconic views in Banff National Park.
Bollywood Connection 🎬
The title track of Koi... Mil Gaya—featuring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta—was filmed at Peyto Lake. Peyto Lake’s surreal beauty has featured in Bollywood films like Fanaa (2006), where Aamir Khan and Kajol’s romantic scenes were shot against this stunning backdrop.
The lake’s dreamlike color and dramatic alpine setting made it the perfect backdrop for the film’s emotional and romantic sequences.
🏔️ Bow Lake: Tranquility at the Glacier’s Edge
Bow Lake lies at the base of the Bow Glacier, part of the Wapta Icefield. It’s one of Banff’s largest lakes and offers a peaceful, reflective surface that mirrors the surrounding peaks. The historic Num-Ti-Jah Lodge adds a rustic charm to the landscape.
