Tool Review! Proform Valve Spring Compressor - How Well Does it Work and is it Easy to Use?

If you are like me, you like to do everything on your own and also like to learn new things. Not only does that save time and money, but knowledge is power. This video I think will cover all those bases. If you are a weekend warrior racer, DIY mechanic, or someone just starting off, you know quality tools are important. I know like most if you, money doesn't grow on trees, and we try to get the best bang for our buck. That's where Proform tools come in. OH, and this is also a "how to use a valve spring compressor" if you are a new to the game, bonus!

Have you ever disassembled cylinder heads? I bet you have, and if you haven't, it is easier than you think. For years the "go to method" was a C clamp style compressor, while those work pretty well, they can be a bit if a chore to work with and only serve on purpose. I am going to be rebuilding a pair of small block Chevy cylinder heads for my 283 engine build project. I want to take them apart, inspect them, and get a better idea of what they need before getting machined. I also want to do this myself, safely, quickly, and friendly on my wallet. The more money I save on tools, the more I can spend on my engine. After doing some research, I ordered the Proform valve spring compressor (see links below) from Competition Products. The tool was very affordable, shipped extremely fast, and actually has some pretty nice packaging. So how did it perform? VERY WELL! The setup is very versatile, 3/8" and 5/16" rocker studs and can be used on cylinder heads on or off the engine. The tool itself is sturdy and well built, which is needed for compressing springs. Is it east to uses, extremely easy... in fact, I removed 16 valve springs in under 20 minutes without a single problem! If you are looking for an affordable and quality valve spring compressor, I recommend this one. It definitely will come in handy in the future for all my projects. If you like this product review, well you are in luck, I will be doing more as I purchase more specialty tools. In fact, I just ordered a Proform connecting rod balancing fixture I will be doing next. In my opinion, this is truly a quality budget friendly tool that is easy to use. I will definitely be visiting their booth at PRI this year to see all that they have to offer!
