I taught a fun hip movement at ForróCamp last week because I love how easily you can use it with every leader and follower to play with the musicality 🥰 Check my shorties to find the quick tutorial about the movement!
The Forró Camp is a very special event for me as a teacher because it is just incredibly rewarding to see the participants evolve their dance from they one to day seven 👏🏼
I saw so much progress in every one of you 😍
Thank you Sarah for this wonderful opportunity and thanks to all participants to trust in my work
👩🏫 For this years forrócamp Sarah Stotz and I thought about a different pedagogical concept together with the other teachers. We have one room with one class at the time. In the last years we used levels to differentiate the classes but as there was only one class at the time students from all levels joined all classes.
🤯 For this year we decided to tried this: All classes were open level but differentiated with a different topic each class. Naturally this way some topics were a bit more advanced and other topics a bit more easy. As teacher I could use this to work better on the progress of the students during the week.😉 What I loved most about this that I could easily build up on the movements and techniques my colleagues Bruno Prado , Rudolfo Batista and Tiago Moraes taught in their classes 💪 And this way integrate all the knowledge the students gained this week rather than just creating loose pieces of information for them.
🤔 There are downsides of open level classes as often beginners might feel overwhelmed and advanced dancers bored. It is a big challenge for the teachers but with enough experience you can make the class interesting for everyone. And given the circumstance of only having one room I still think it was the best option.
👉 Advice for teachers: When teaching at an event communicate with your colleagues about what they are teaching or even better: visit other classes with an open mind. This way you can connect your class to other classes the students took and maximize their learning progress
👉 Advice for students: try to not only focus on level descriptions but also on the topic of the class and if that might interest you. If the topic is interesting to you, you will learn a lot in a beginners class even if you are advanced. The other way around is not very recommendable. If you are a beginner you should be VERY carful to level yourself up just because you would like to learn the fancy topic movement. Give yourself time and learn the basics first. You will get there!
