The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has gone viral recently for their arrest of William McNeil Jr. This case went viral when Mr. McNeil posted a video that he recorded during the stop, showing him sitting calmly as a deputy busts out his window, punches him in the face, and then drags him out of the car to punch him in the face again. Since this arrest in February and his subsequent guilty plea to resisting arrest without violence, he has hired famous civil rights attorney Ben Crump to represent him in a suit against the city for civil rights violations. While Crump has given press conference decrying the JSO, the elected Sheriff in Jacksonville has also responded by saying that although the video is ugly, it is subject to internal review and they are not recommending charges for prosecution.
It's understandable why the video went viral. It stands as another example of what it's like to "drive while black," where you get pulled over, pulled out of your car, and punched in the face for sitting and being calm. But as it is with most cases like these, there is always more to the story. And the rest of that story is told through the officer's bodycams, which I watch and review in full for this video!
