Bazaar Strolling in Tajrish: Nowruz, the Dollar, and Small Joys of the People

Today, I walked through the old Tajrish bazaar, a place where the scent of spring always arrives earlier than anywhere else. Fresh fruits, purple hyacinths, colorful nuts, and homemade pickles all signaled the approach of Nowruz. Yet, amidst all these colors and fragrances, the heavy shadow of the rising dollar was impossible to ignore. Prices climbed higher every day, leaving people hesitating between buying and not buying, calculating their expenses with careful precision.

Still, small, vibrant joys found a way to shine through the hardships. In one corner of the market, a girl dressed as Haji Firouz, wearing red glasses, danced to attract attention, hoping to earn some money for her family as Nowruz approached. Not far from her, I saw a father and son playing music together; the young boy danced while his father, whose hands carried the weight of life’s struggles, played his instrument.
