James Ellis - a botanist with the Illinois Natural History Survey, and author of "A Backyard Prairie: The Hidden Beauty of Tallgrass and Wildflowers" - presents a program, in a virtual meeting, to the Peoria Audubon Society on backyard prairies. He speaks about all of the steps and issues that go into creating your own prairie and conservation area with native plants.

James is the Natural Areas Coordinator of the "Committee on Natural Areas," for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he manages, maintains, and protects, as well as coordinates access to about 1000 acres of lands and waters. These 12 sites are part of the University of Illinois’ natural areas.
James is a long-time member and volunteer with Grand Prairie Friends, a conservation organization and land trust in east-central Illinois, and has served on the board of directors from 2000 - 2021
