Fishing has always been one of the main source of revenue for the people of Seychelles. This is no surprise, when you consider that this small island nation is more water than land.
Its territorial waters covers about 47thousand square kilometres, about 92 times the size of the main island of Mahe.
The prosperity of Seychelles, is uniquely linked to its Ocean and its marine resources.
For every Seychellois family, the sea and its resources are vital. It is the meal that they share everyday, the income that provides for their wellbeing and the amusement for both young and old.
And for the traditional fishermen, it is their way of life. These men are invaluable contributors to the Seychellois society. Well known and liked, they are responsible for the well balanced meal that ensures the healthy lifestyle of a nation reliant on the consumption of fish as its most important protein source.
It is important to value them and their work. Their knowledge and their traditional methods needs to be preserved. Methods that once, were sustainable in many ways
