A 50 Mph (80 Km/h), 70% overlap rear crash test. The barrier weighs 1360 kg. (About 3000 lbs.) A research test analyzing a faster, more severe rear impact to assess fuel system integrity. This test protocol would later be used for the 2007MY and later.
This is a test on the fuel system to ensure there is no fuel leakage in a high-speed rear-end collision. This test was performed at TRC Ohio in East Liberty, Ohio on 04/18/1996.
Result: Fail - A trace amount of stoddard spilled following the impact event. A total of 2228 grams (78.6 Ounces) of stoddard leaked from where the filler neck meets the tank over the course of the static rollover. All recorded amounts during each rotation period exceeded the allowable amount.
