With rising electricity prices, most system owners would like their self-consumption rate to be as high as possible. But what does the self-consumption rate actually depend on and how can it be considered when planning a system? How can I decide which battery storage size would be optimal for a system?
The self-consumption rate is mainly determined by the ratio of system size and annual energy demand. Other factors include the orientation and tilt of the modules.
It is relatively easy to increase the self-consumption quota with a battery storage system. The optimal size of the battery storage depends mainly on the ratio between the size of the system and the annual electricity demand as well as on the local electricity costs and the lost feed-in tariff.
