NOTE: This recording is of Great Western at a better running speed thanks to no wind like with last time on Leap Day 2024, where there were high winds and GW ran at a discomforting 630 fpm. Check it out on the link!

Great Western is now the oldest high speed detachable in Utah installed in 1992 by CTEC after the removal of Solitude’s Eagle Express just down the canyon in 1988. This lift features the 1st-Generation Pre-Stealth terminals commonly found at Vail and Beaver Creek before the Stealths I and II debuted. It has the classic CTEC bail carriers, albeit with white and slippery footrests that the Sunrise lift at Park City has. It also services a sheer amount of Brighton’s terrain you can ski in one lap and provides amazing views of nearby mountain ranges going on the Western Trail or hiking Clayton’s Peak, just about a tad 100 feet higher from the lift’s summit. This lift is showing its age well and this year has had a lot of breakdowns and unexpected maintenance issues. I hope Brighton and Boyne, the owner, will replace this lift the next few years maybe with a new Doppelmayr D-Line 6 that they always splurge the money for in the resorts they own, like what they invested for Crest.
