Sundance Outlaw Express (Summer)

Outlaw Express is a new 2021 Doppelmayr Detachable Quad, which along with its fixed grip sister Stairway replaced the Ray’s Lift, a 1995 Garaventa CTEC fixed grip. Ray’s went lookers left and would go up and over the crest until descending to Back Mountain where it neighbors with Reds lift with 2 midstations. However Ray’s would go left of the true frontside peak, which would require a hike from the 2nd midstation or from the Roundup trail from Back Mountain. Ray’s lift predecessor was the Madan Double (1965-1995) which serves the peak Outlaw serves right now.

Outlaw was built when the new owners, Mountain Capital Partners acquired Sundance a year prior and have done an amazing job revamping the mountain and aren’t even done yet. It features a half mid-station for beginners resembling the Ray’s lifts 1st midstation, before climbing the steep incline to the Frontside Peak. The mid-station is a Uni-G “pancake” style used on various lifts in Europe and as midstations for such other lifts in America such as Orange Bubble and Quicksilver Gondola at Park City. However Outlaw’s midstation has a vibrant red color which sets it apart from the other Doppelmayr lifts with similar midstations. Outlaw has 17 towers, but 7 of them are American Style, 5 more are European Style and the other 5 are Canadian (most of them around the midstation) Outlaw is the main lift out of the main Sundance Base Area and also operates for night skiing AND in summer as well. It funnels to all the rest of the areas on the mountain. This lift’s a workhorse and it’s gonna remain there in Sundance’s lift system for years to come.
