Putin 'Breaks' Trump's Venezuela Siege? Oil Tanker Fleeing US Coast Guard Flies Russian Flag | 4k

The crew of an oil tanker fleeing US forces in the Atlantic Ocean recently painted a Russian flag on the side of the vessel, the New York Times reported. The oil tanker has been formally renamed and added to an official Russian database of vessels registered in that country, the Times reports.
According to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, the vessel, previously known as the Bella 1, is now registered as the Marinera, with a home port of Sochi. The move is an apparent attempt to claim Russian protection, the NYT wrote citing two unnamed American officials.
The flag further complicates things for the US Coast Guard, which has been trailing the tanker for nearly two weeks as part of “Operation Southern Spear” campaign. The aging vessel, Bella 1, has been under US sanctions since last year for transporting Iranian oil, the Times reported.
Earlier this month, the US seized a Panama-flagged vessel called Centuries, which the White House described as “operating as part of the Venezuelan shadow fleet.”
