La ligne forestière de Moldovita est très agréable. Les dernières années d'exploitation étaient assurées par une petite Resita (n°764449, maintenant visible au musée de Augsburg Allemagne) et la 030 n°763196 Krauss Munich. Les petites machines n'étaient pas l'attraction de la ligne à elle seule, il était surtout très étonnant de les voir tirer sans problème les trains malgré les pentes fortes de la ligne. C'est un petit miracle de voir encore cette machine en état de marche.

La ligne forestière a été fermée, comme beaucoup d'autres en Roumanie, et c'est uniquement grâce à une poignée « d'enthousiastes ferroviaire », et particulièrement Georg Hocevar, que le matériel fût préservé ; rejoins par d'autres une partie de la ligne inférieure de la ligne a été reconstruite. Au début de l'aventure il n'y avait « que » 2 kms de préservées, maintenant il y en a 8 kms.

Au fil de la ligne nous découvrirons les maisons typiques en bois, la « piste » parallèle à la voie a laissé place à une route ces dernières années.

Au début il était prévu de transférer la locomotive Krauss n°763193 de Viseu de Sus ici. Mais cela c'est avéré trop compliqué et le retour vers Vise était trop incertain. C'est surtout un problème politique dû au fait que les deux communes (Viseu de Sus et Moldovita) appartiennent à des partis politiques différents ; il est très difficile de prévoir les négociations.

Moldovita was a really nice forestry line. In its last years of operation they used a Resita (764 449, now in a railway exhibition in Augsburg/Germany) and the 0-6-0 inside frame 763 193 locomotive from Krauss/Munich. The small engine was not only the main attraction of the line, it also was amazing what this little, 50 hp engine was able to pull and push uphill over the steep gradients of this line. It's a little miracle that this unique engine survived and is still serviceable.

The forestry line was closed and abandoned under doubtful conditions. Only because of a few railway enthusiasts, in particular Georg Hocevar, that the remains could be preserved, and with the help of other railway enthusiasts a part of the lower section of the line could be refurbished. The length of the line was reduced to two kilometres just before they started to save and preserve it. Now they have rebuilt the first eight kilometres.

We'll make a visit to the depot where our loco will be fired. Along the line we'll pass several old-style wooden houses. The parallel road has been partly paved in recent years. We want to transfer the Krauss loco 763 193 to the line, but due to political resistance this remains difficult. There are fears that it would be impossible to re-transfer the loco back to Viseu after we've used it for our charter train. The problem is that the city council of Viseu and Moldovita belong to different political parties -- and this is still a problem in south eastern Europe. We can't foresee whether negotiations and plum liqueur will help our wishes become true. So we're not promising anything except we'll bring a steam loco over to Moldovita.
