The Thistle, the UK’s first supervised drug consumption room, is set to open in Glasgow's east end on Monday. Funded by the Scottish government, it aims to reduce overdoses, drug-related harm, and public drug use.
The facility allows users to inject illegal drugs like heroin or cocaine under medical supervision without fear of prosecution, following a policy change by Scotland's Lord Advocate.
While the UK government opposes wider implementation, it will not block the Glasgow project.
Critics, including some local residents and an addictions charity, argue the site could attract more drug dealing and encourage harmful behaviour.
