​In 1944, during the height of WWII, this seemingly idyllic island was the location of a secret Australian army base used for chemical warfare trials. Planes flew overhead, spraying mustard gas on volunteer soldiers who had no idea they were about to become guinea pigs in a devastating experiment.
​These brave servicemen did not die on the island, but their exposure resulted in horrific injuries and life-long, debilitating health issues—a profound tragedy in Australian military history.
​In this episode, we go deep into the jungle to find what remains:
