The Edgar Broughton Band was an English psychedelic rock group founded in Warwick in 1968. Originally a blues band, they dropped "Blues" from their name when moving toward psychedelia and relocated to London, signing with Harvest Records in December 1968.
Their first single "Evil"/"Death of an Electric Citizen" (June 1969) was Harvest's debut release, followed by their album "Wasa Wasa," which featured blues-influenced hard rock and Edgar Broughton's gritty vocals reminiscent of Captain Beefheart. They recorded live at Abbey Road in December 1969, capturing their signature song "Out Demons Out."
The band gained notoriety for controversial free concerts at unconventional venues like playgrounds, leading to civil disorder and bans in several towns after incidents in Redcar and Keele. Despite the controversy, they continued recording, releasing "Sing Brother Sing" in June 1970 and the politically charged single "Up Yours!" commenting on the 1970 General Election.
