A plank is a simple, effective bodyweight exercise that requires no equipment and can be performed just about anywhere.
The Plank exercise is one of the best core-strengthening moves out there. In addition to working your superficial core muscles (that is just six pack abs), the plank also targets the transverse abdominis — a deep abdominal muscle that plays a key role in keeping your trunk stable during movement. Core stability plays an important role in preventing lower-back pain performing daily activities and exercise.
Planks are easy to learn, and require zero equipment, making them a great choice for beginners and advanced exercisers alike.
However, performing planks with poor form limits the benefits of the exercise, and may increase your risk of shoulder and lower back pain.
Planks may be a common move—you have probably done them countless times but that does not make the pose any less challenging.
All sorts of wonky alignments are possible, and a sloppy plank can cause a slew of ailments including wrist, neck, shoulder, and lower-back injuries. The key to avoiding these injuries is moving mindfully—if possible, do plank pose in front of a mirror or take video in mobile to see exactly where your body is in space.

However, it is rightfully said that anything worth having does not come easy. Planks may not be as time-consuming as other exercises, but they sure need a whole lot of core strength. Moreover, there are certain conditions that must be met, for a plank to plough any results.
