Chapter 8 Summary:
Krishna explains that the living entity is the indestructible transcendental living entity whose constitutional element never changes at any time - is called Brahman. Adhyatman means his eternal nature. All the actions pertaining to the development of material bodies is called Karma or fruitive activities. In spiritual consciousness the nature of Brahman is to serve Parabrahman or the Supreme personality of Godhead. In material nature Brahman or jivatma can take 84,00,000 species of life including man, demigod, animal, beast, bird etc, according to his karma, makes specific sacrifices to attain specific heavenly planets. However, when his merits are exhausted, he returns to earth again in the form of man. Krishna conscious person avoids such sacrifices thereby preparing himself to return to Godhead.
Physical manifestations are ever changing. Krishna in the form of Supersoul dwells in the heart of every such embodied being. Whatever state of being one remembers when Krishna quits his body, he attains that state. But whoever at the time of death, remembers Krishna, definitely attains Him. Hence Krishna says one should always think of Him and carry out prescribed duties. One who constantly medicates upon Krishna, remembering Him without deviating would surely reach Krishna. Krishna is the one who knows, controls and maintains everything. Being the oldest and luminous like the sun he is beyond material conception.
Further Krishna explains how one can attain salvation by different methods and devotionally engaging himself in remembering the Supreme Lord. Krishna says that for one who remembers Him with constant engagement in His devotional services, without any deviation, can obtain Krishna very easily. Thus, after obtaining Him, great souls never return to this temporary world. Because through such devotion they attain highest perfection. Though there is a lot of misery, repeated birth and death in this temporary world, one who attains Krishna's abode never takes birth again. Though everything else in this world is annihilated, Krishna's Supreme abode remains infallible and one who goes there never comes back.
Krishna is greater than all and is attainable only through unalloyed devotion. Although He is present in His abode, He is all-pervading and everything is situated within Him. Hence a person who chooses the path of devotional service to Lord Krishna is automatically blessed with the results derived from studying the Vedas, performing austerities, giving charity, and performing fruitive activities.
